We get asked if we can change or swap the number on your account after you're done with it. The short answer is: no.
The long answer is as follows:
Recent changes within the FCC's STIR/SHAKEN framework in the US means that “burner” numbers (disposable) are a thing of the past. All cloud based numbers must be registered with a central Robocall Mitigation Database and have a trust score associated with them. Having numbers recycled every few months will mean that the numbers will not reliably receive or deliver SMS or phone calls because they will not remain in this Robocall Mitigation Database. In fact, T-Mobile point blank refuse to send or receive SMS for numbers that are not on the Robocaller Database.
Therefore, you might get a couple of calls and SMS out of recycled/burned numbers (if you're lucky), but that'll be about it. It's also not a viable business for us - 2ndNumber is focussed on entrepreneurial spirit and providing a service that allows you to operate and keep your business and personal life separate.
As it stands, when you get a US number from us, we enter it into the Robocaller Mitigation Database automatically. It takes 24 hours. After this time, you can use the number for SMS verification and other features you'd normally expect. You may still find some resistance from some app providers when it comes to sending SMS verification texts, but if they offer a call-back service, you can use that to receive confirmation codes, or, report the issue to the app provider so that they allow your number to authenticate since the number complies with all regional legislation.
